What does PLN 100,000 in a municipal budget mean to the average person when they deal with amounts several times smaller in their everyday life?

How can complex data be presented in a simple yet accurate way?

Every municipality has a different budget and manages it differently. As a result, the percentage of a resident’s taxes allocated to individual expenses will also vary.

The Story designed the nacoidamojepieniadze.pl platform to account for differences between municipal budgets and accurately show how residents’ taxes translate into specific public expenditures.

How does it work?

After entering basic information, users can see how much of their tax goes to the municipality and how it translates into funding for specific areas - for example, how much road infrastructure could be financed with those contributions.

From a technical perspective

The entire platform is powered by our High Performance Websites technology. Unique design is combined with the latest technologies to meet Google’s performance requirements and deliver a fast, highly optimized experience.

The result?

Not only do residents gain a better understanding of how their municipality’s budget works, but local governments also gain a tool for greater transparency and public trust. To date, more than 140 municipalities have partnered with The Story.

The project became not only a tool for increasing transparency in public finances, but also a practical way to improve residents’ financial literacy.

In one of the cities we analyzed, the number of residents filing their PIT in their municipality increased by 21% over an eight-year period.

The service was also used to present the funding behind selected social initiatives, such as the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP).

The website breaks down the total amount across the programs and hospitals that received the equipment.

We have been working with the Foundation for over a decade, so as part of the project we created a solution that allows users to trace a specific donation - from a selected WOŚP Grand Finale to the individual sub-projects it funded.

Users can see how their donation was allocated and exactly what it helped fund.

Both applications show that well-designed data can be more than just information - it can help people better understand what happens to their money and the impact they have on the world around them.
